This work pretends to highlight how we, as teachers, guide our students in making-meaning processes by using picture books because they are motivating and they help our students to achieve meaningful learning while enjoying the language, the content and literature in the English class. We introduce the picture book Amazing Grace, written by Mary Hoffman and illustrated by Caroline Binch, to our Primary School students in the English class. Moreover, we present ―in order to help our students improving their five literacy skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking and thinking) at the same time that they are developing their literary competence― the Reyes Torres’ Model for the development of Literary Competence (2014). This is a triangular model that gives support to the idea that the reader establishes a dialogue with the text.Este artículo pretende poner de manifiesto cómo nosotros, como profesores, guiamos a nuestros alumnos en los procesos de construcción de significado utilizando libros ilustrados porque son motivadores y ayudan a nuestros alumnos a lograr un aprendizaje significativo mientras disfrutan del lenguaje, los contenidos y la literatura en la clase de inglés. Presentamos el libro ilustrado Amazing Grace, escrito por Mary Hoffman e ilustrado por Caroline Binch, a nuestros alumnos de Primaria en la clase de inglés. Además, presentamos -con el fin de ayudar a nuestros alumnos a mejorar sus cinco destrezas de lectoescritura (leer, escribir, escuchar, hablar y pensar) al mismo tiempo que desarrollan su competencia literaria- el Modelo de Reyes Torres para el desarrollo de la Competencia Literaria (2014). Se trata de un modelo triangular que da soporte a la idea de que el lector establece un diálogo con el texto.
