	Macario, a feature film directed by Roberto Gavaldón in 1959, is a landmark in the representation of the Day of the Death in Mexican cinematography (1930-1960). This paper analyses the film from the new perspective of constructing national identity through the festival?s introspection, social context, iconography and lastly its impact. The analysis of the film delves into how the film industry turned the Day of the Dead into a national icon of Mexican identity.
