Las Intervenciones de Psicología Positiva son recursos valiosos para promover el bienestar en los individuos que las practican (Bolier et al., 2013), y, concretamente, la intervención del Mejor Yo Posible (MYP) parece ser un enfoque prometedor (Loveday et al., 2016). Se trata de una intervención positiva que pide a los individuos que se imaginen a sí mismos en el mejor futuro posible (King, 2001). Aunque existen muchos estudios individuales publicados acerca de su eficacia, todavía se desconoce cuál es la eficacia general de esta intervención, y se necesita investigación adicional sobre este tema. Además, la investigación sobre los mecanismos que subyacen a la eficacia de esta actividad positiva es escasa. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de esta tesis es doble: explorar la eficacia global del MYP y analizar el papel de los mecanismos que pueden influir en su eficacia. Concretamente, se examinará el papel del enfoque temporal. En concreto, esta tesis tiene los siguientes objetivos específicos: 1) Revisar la eficacia general de la intervención MYP en base a la evidencia existente, y explorar el papel de las posibles variables moderadoras relacionadas con la implementación de la intervención. 2) Contribuir a una medición más precisa del bienestar subjetivo considerando el marco temporal. 3) Diseñar y desarrollar dos variantes temporales del MYP original (Mejor Yo Pasado y Mejor Yo Presente), aplicadas a través de las Tecnologías de la Información y de la Comunicación (TIC). 4) Analizar la eficacia de las tres versiones temporales del MYP, aplicadas a través de las TIC, para aumentar el bienestar. 5) Analizar los posibles mecanismos subyacentes a su eficacia, mediante análisis cualitativos de los textos. Esta tesis contiene cinco estudios (organizados en cuatro artículos) y dos capítulos adicionales destinados a abordar los objetivos anteriormente mencionados. En el Capítulo 1 se describe una introducción general de los principales temas de esta tesis, incluyendo las principales características y efectos de las Intervenciones Positivas y el MYP. Además, se expone brevemente el papel de los posibles factores que pueden influir en la eficacia de estas intervenciones, así como el impacto que las TIC pueden tener en el campo de las Intervenciones Positivas. El Capítulo 2 consiste en una revisión sistemática y meta-análisis sobre la eficacia del MYP en comparación con grupos control, que analiza la eficacia general de la intervención, así como el análisis de posibles variables moderadoras. El capítulo 3 tiene por objeto describir la validación española de una escala que mide la satisfacción de la vida a lo largo de la misma. Además, se exploran los aspectos temporales del bienestar subjetivo y su relación con las variables sociodemográficas y los componentes afectivos del bienestar. El Capítulo 4 incluye dos ensayos controlados aleatorios (Estudio 1 y Estudio 2) en los que se comparó la eficacia de las variaciones temporales del MYP implementadas a través de las TIC con una condición de control. El Capítulo 5 incluye un diseño de método mixto en el que se realizó un análisis cualitativo de los textos incluidos en el Estudio 1 y se combinó con datos cuantitativos sobre la eficacia de la intervención sobre el efecto positivo. Finalmente, el Capítulo 6 presenta una discusión general que incluye un resumen de las principales conclusiones esbozadas por los resultados obtenidos en las publicaciones anteriores, así como las limitaciones y orientaciones futuras de esta tesis.

Positive Psychology Interventions are valuable resources to promote wellbeing in individuals who practice them (Bolier et al., 2013), and, concretely, the Best Possible Self (BPS) intervention seems to be a promising approach (Loveday et al., 2016). This is a positive intervention that asks individuals to imagine themselves in the best possible future (King, 2001). Although there are many individual published studies about its efficacy, it is still unknown what the overall efficacy of this intervention is, and further research is needed on this issue. In addition, research on the mechanisms which lie beneath the efficacy of this positive activity is scarce. Therefore, the aim of this dissertation is twofold: to explore the overall efficacy of the BPS, and to analyze the role of the mechanisms that can influence its efficacy. Concretely, the role of the temporal focus will be examined. Subsequently, this dissertation has the following specific objectives: 1) To review the overall efficacy of the BPS intervention based on the existing evidence, and to explore the role of the possible moderator variables related to the intervention implementation. 2) To contribute to a more accurate measurement of SWB considering the temporal frame. 3) To design and develop two temporal variants of the original BPS (Best Past Self and Best Present Self), applied through ICTs. 4) To analyze the efficacy of the three temporal versions of BPS, applied through ICTs, to increase wellbeing. 5) To analyze the possible underlying mechanisms that lie beneath their effectiveness, through qualitative analyses of the texts. This dissertation contains five studies (organized in four papers) and two additional chapters aimed at addressing the previously mentioned objectives. Chapter 1 described a general introduction of the main topics of this dissertation, including the main characteristics and effects of PPIs and the BPS intervention. In addition, the role of possible factors that can influence the efficacy of these interventions was briefly exposed, as well as the impact that ICTs can have in the field of PPIs. Chapter 2 consists of a systematic review and meta-analysis on the efficacy of the BPS compared with controls, which include the general efficacy levels of the intervention as well as the analyses of possible moderator variables. Chapter 3 is aimed at describing the Spanish validation of a scale that measures life satisfaction along the lifespan. In addition, exploring the temporal aspects of SWB and its relationship with sociodemographic variables and the affective components of SWB. Chapter 4 includes two randomized controlled trials (Study 1 and Study 2) in which the efficacy of the temporal variations of the BPS implemented through ICTs were compared with a control condition. Chapter 5 includes a mixed method design in which a qualitative analysis of the texts included in Study 1 was carried out and combined with quantitative data about the efficacy of the intervention on positive affect. Finally, Chapter 6 presents a general discussion that includes a summary of the main conclusions outlined by the results obtained in the previous publications, as well as the limitations and future directions of this dissertation.
