This paper describes the range of the different terms which are attached to amplitudo in the humanist reception. After having explored the relationship among some Greek rhetorical concepts and their Latin noun, starting from Trebizond?s work, it deals with the qualities and levels of style. Employing Hermogenes? ideae, the article further characterizes the specific sense of amplitudo from the Renaissance approaches of Pietro Vettori?s comment on Demetrios of Phaleron?s treatise, and Pedro Juan Núñez?s Tabulae. |
